The Nano Raptor has been in WTB’s tire arsenal for decades. It’s derived from WTB’s BeeLine cross-country tyre, and made for the kind of aggressive trail riding favoured by enduro racer Nathan Riddle, hence the name. WTB has also pioneered tires in the 29″er area, “plus” tire niche, and in the self-described “Road Plus” category with the Horizon 47. Conclusions: The WTB Nano 40 is a really good gravel road tire.

It’s a favorite with cross-country racers and has been the tire of choice for grueling endurance events such as the Tour Divide. The Riddler is going to be faster as it's lighter, has better rolling resistance and is lower volume. The Nano will also perform better in wet conditions. I found the Riddler and GK both better than the Nano fwiw. Rediculously loose bead, very round profile, low volume, knobs tear off, and endless punctures. Now WTB says that the casings on the Resolute and the Riddler are the “TCS Light, Fast Rolling” casings, but the Resolute, for whatever reason, seems to have a slightly more forgiving ride. I’m not sure why this would be, but I do feel a slight advantage to the Resolute.

The Riddler is one seriously fast tyre. The WTB Riddler tires are the second dedicated design for gravel road riding from the company that has brought the Nano 40.

Choose the Riddler for a better all around tire. It definitely errs toward the dirt side, and that shouldn’t be a surprise given its DNA, which is from the fat tired Nanoraptor series of mountain bike tires.
